Between 1992 and 2022, Romania's population experienced a significant decline, dropping by nearly 4 million people, resulting in an overall population of 19.05 million. The primary reason for this decline is the migration of Romanians to other countries, especially between 2000 and 2010, a period marked by the lifting of visa requirements in EU countries and Romania's acceptance into the European Union in 2007.
In order to address the complex and evolving nature of the Romanian migration, a National Monitor of Romanian Migration was established. This monitor observes the steady stream of Romanian people around the world and analyzes this phenomenon using a range of indicators as follows:
1. Intention of permanent residency
2. Financial habits
3. Savings patterns
4.Study of remittances
5. Romanian migration trends
6. Investments in education, business, and real estate
The National Monitor of Romanian Migration has partnered with various institutions and organizations, both public and private, to:
provide support in managing the operational issues posed by migration;
investigate the impact of migration on the economy and society of both the host and native countries;
submit action plans for implementation by both the private and public sectors.
The National Monitor of Romanian Migration conducts lectures and workshops that involve the active participation of various financial and social institutions. The main objectives of these events are as follows:
Promote economic and social development in communities through in-depth research, constructive dialogue, and developing and implementing migration-related programs.
Support migrants and their families in integrating into a new environment.
Facilitate programs, studies, and social expertise that focus on preventing the negative effects of migration.
